The wildly popular Doors Open Ontario is adding in-person events for the first time in several years! We’re thrilled the Central Library is part of the Town of Whitby's lineup of destinations to visit on Saturday, October 18. We’re making plans to show off our stunning building with exciting tours and activities.
Get ready to go behind the scenes and explore spaces not normally open to the public. Join staff for our popular basement tour (see the pond pump system, the furnace room, the original blueprints for the Library, and you just have to see how the elevator works!), play in the Library’s Discovery Zones, investigate the Whitby Archives, and more!
Can you guess when the Central Library opened to the public? If you said 2005, you’re right! This vibrant community hub has become a centre for learning and a keeper of the town’s heritage for two decades now.
Our Doors Open Whitby drop-in tours will run for one hour and will be split into two distinct sections with plenty of surprises waiting to be discovered. Half of the group will start in the basement while the other half will visit the Archives, the Discovery Zones, and more. Halfway through, the groups will switch, giving everyone access to nearly every corner of the Library! Looking to plan your day? Check out the times for the tours below:
- Tour 1: 9:30-10:30am
- Tour 2: 11am-12pm
- Tour 3: 1-2pm
- Tour 4: 2:30-3:30pm
We can’t wait to host our guests at the Central Library for Doors Open Whitby. This event promises to be fun for the whole family. See you there!
