The Library is honouring World Mental Health Day with interactive programs.

The World Health Organization has declared October 10 World Mental Health Day and our staff here at the Library have been busy generating ideas to participate in this important event.

Do you have an anxiety monster? Lots of people do. The Rossland Branch is hosting a special program on October 9 called Anxiety Monster in a Box for children in grades 3-6. Kids will write positive affirmations for their anxiety monster to hold so they’re ready to use at a moment’s notice. The Central Library is hosting an affirmation jar workshop for children in grades 4-6. Both programs will give young ones helpful tools to cope with anxiety.

The Central Library is also hosting an engaging and information seminar on October 9 called Let’s Talk Mental Health: Understanding the Struggles, Finding the Support. Experts in the field will focus on the mental health challenges impacting our communities. Whether you're seeking support for yourself or hoping to better understand the experiences of others, this seminar will offer valuable tools, insights, and resources to help navigate life’s complexities with care and confidence.

The Library was also looking for a way everyone could take part in World Mental Health Day, so our staff have designed interactive billboards. Beginning October 5, drop by any of our locations and add a post-it note to our “I want you to remember…” walls. Together, we can spread the word about the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

Looking for other resources? Our WPL staff picks team has put together a list of materials for all ages.

The Library is the perfect place to find resources for your mental health toolbox, on World Mental Health Day on October 10 and all year round. Whether it’s attending a program or finding a resource, we’re here to help.
